Resilience: The Skill That Turns Setbacks into Stepping Stones

Why do some thrive in uncertainty while others feel stuck? We assume resilient people are simply “tough” and pushing through at all costs, but I think the reality is different.
Resilience isn’t about enduring hardship; it’s about adapting and growing through setbacks and change with intention!
⏳ Problem: Change fatigue & burnout.
Change fatigue is real. Burnout is rising. According to ‘Workplace Burnout Survey’ by Deloitte 77% of professionals report burnout. When we face continuous change without strategies to adapt, it leads to stress, lower engagement, and even career stagnation.
💡 Solution: Build resilience, like it is a muscle.
The solution lies in stamina, endurance, persistence and recovery. Resilience is about sustaining energy for the long run without burning out or disconnecting from what truly matters!

According to the APA, resilience is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress, such as family and relationship problems, serious health issues, or workplace and financial stressors.
And it comes in three levels:
Individual resilience enables employees to handle stress and uncertainty.
Team resilience ensures groups can collaborate and adapt under pressure.
Organizational resilience provides structural and cultural support for resilience at all levels.
Building Personal Resilience: The Foundation for Thriving Teams and Organizations
How can we strengthen our own resilience to not only thrive individually but also uplift our teams and drive positive change within our organizations?
Rephrasing from Richard Citrin Phd., treat mental and emotional resilience like a bank account!
You make deposits; self-care, rest, mindset shifts, perspective shifts and withdrawals; stress, crises, negative self-talk. The goal is to keep a positive balance!
How can you make deposits now to draw on when needed?
🔹 Deposit Nr.1 - Physical Resilience:
Workout-Sleep-Hydrate! Build strength and stamina in your body on a weekly basis. Build micro-recovery moments into your day: Deep breaths, a 10-minute walk, or a real pause between meetings.
🔹 Deposit Nr.2 - Mental Resilience:
Instead of asking “Why is this happening to me?”, shift to “What is this teaching me?” Make an index of the challenges and your learnings.
🔹 Deposit Nr.3 - Emotional Resilience:
Get out of that dark place! Understand that no failure or challenge lasts forever. Recognize that tough times are temporary.
🔹 Deposit Nr.4 - Social Resilience:
Express your thoughts and needs clearly while also listening actively. Feeling connected to a group provides emotional security and motivation.
🔹 Deposit Nr.5 - Purposeful Resilience:
Have clear goals and values that guide your actions and decisions. Know where your North Star is!
Time for Action!
What deposits can you make into your resilience account this coming week?
Make a list of actions you can take and schedule them in your calendar to track your progress at the end of the week.
Remember, you are the only one who can maintain a balanced account, with endurance, stamina, recovery, and persistence!
Warmly,
Dilek
